Colour therapy: how do colours affect our moods and our bodies?

Colour therapy, also known as chromotherapy, is a technique that is used all over the world and is based on the theory that colours can affect both a person’s mind and their body.

Each of the rainbow’s colours has different properties that can help you to control or alter different moods. Here are the benefits that each colour can provide:

Red

This colour is associated with energy, and tends to have a motivational and encouraging effect on people. This stimulus affects not only the spirit, but it also activates the mind, improving blood circulation and expediting the delivery of nutrients to the heart and other organs.

Orange

Orange is commonly associated with representations of the sun, and is considered the most effective hue for treating fatigue and low moods. It gives people vitality and optimism and fills them with a sensation of warmth

Yellow

This colour activates the nervous system and puts the mind and body in a state of alert. This awakens the mind, promoting learning and making the individual more attentive to the world around them.

Green

Green is highly recommended for people of a hyperactive or nervous disposition, as it regulates the cardiac and respiratory rhythms by creating a harmonious and tranquil environment.

Blue

This colour conveys peace and tranquillity, gradually calming those who are exposed to it and allowing them to sleep more easily. If a turquoise shade is used, mental fatigue and feelings of loneliness will also disappear.

Violet

Violet is a very spiritual hue, which is good for meditation and imagination. These activities help to combat anxiety by allowing your mind to disconnect from the world.
